Mach 1 is the term used to represent the speed of sound. True to its namesake the 428 Cobra Jet-powered Mustangs won Top-Eliminator at the 1968 NHRA Winter Nationals.
The Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a performance-oriented option package of the Ford Mustang muscle car, originally introduced in August 1968 for the 1969 model year. For the second model year of Fords aggressively styled Mach 1 Mustang, in 1970, it delivered all the style and performance of the Mustang-based Shelby GTs with significantly lower pricing.
This 1970 Mach 1 benefits from a five-year comprehensive restoration with only 520 miles since completion. Featuring its original sheet metal, this Mach 1 is powered by the mighty R-code 428 CI Super Cobra Jet V-8 engine with Ram Air induction along with a Ford Toploader 4-speed manual transmission. The 428 Cobra Jet was a masterful combination of already-proven parts and components in the Ford inventory and developed to redeem Fords honor in NHRA Super Stock competition. True to purpose, 428 Cobra Jet-powered Mustangs swept the field at the 1968 NHRA Winter Nationals and took Top Eliminator, establishing the Cobra Jet legend.
One-of-one produced as equipped, this 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback stands as one of the most potent factory supercars ever produced.
