Vehicle Description

Overview

The Boss 351 Mustang was introduced in late 1971. The new Boss turned out to be one of the fastest Mustangs of the day. Given that it was only produced for part of 1971, this Boss is one of the rarest with only 1,806 built. While previous Boss Mustangs had been assembled specifically to qualify the cars or their engines for sanctioned competition (the 302 in the SCCA's Trans Am series and the 429 Engine for use in NASCAR's big-car Grand National events), the Boss 351C was intended for service as a street-only motor. Named for the Ohio foundry where they were made, Ford's 351-cubic-inch Cleveland engines were limited to a run of four model years only—1970-73—but the Boss version was only assembled for the relatively few special Mustangs built in 1971. The 1971 Boss 351 Mustang was a hot-rodder’s dream car as it checked all the boxes and many consider it Ford’s Last Fast Mustang.
