Vehicle Description

Overview

Resulting from a deadly crash in th 1955 24 hours of Le Mans which killed more than 80 spectators, GM formally suspended its racing division.  To circumvent this GM fundings the separate Southern Engineering and Development Company which built 5 cars names Black Widows to compete in NASCAR in 1957. Interior and exterior paint design is identical to that of the original 5 Black Widow NASCAR race cars produced by GM for the 1957 race series; The 5 original Black Widows with 283 CI fuel injected engines with 3-speed automatic trannies dominated the NASCAR series in '57; the 150 platform was selected for these cars over the 210 or Bel Air as the 150 was a more rigid framed car owing to its center post top and being the lightest of the 3 models.  Due to the success of these cars in the '57 series, NASCAR outlawed fuel injection, not returning until the 2011 season.  All these cars were then retrofitted with dual 4-barrel carburetors which is how this car is equipped.
